About CanaulesLe Bastide des Lavandieres is located at a cross-road in the centre of the little village of Canaules which is literally surrounded by the vines & vineyards of the wonderful Languedoc wine producing region of southern France.
If you feel like seeing the vines close-up or learning a bit more about how wine is produced & blended then a short trip to the nearest village - St. Jean de Serres (2km) will take you to LVI vineyard & cave which guests at La Bastide des Lavandieres are welcome to visit . You may even be interested in our vine ownership scheme or buying a few bottles of our famous Galway Bay label to take home as a reminder of your stay in the south of France . ActivitiesIf you feel like a bit of exercise there are bicycles available at La Bastide for you to cycle to St. Jean de Serres or to explore the surrounding area at your leisure . Road traffic tends to be a lot lighter here than in many other areas of mainland Europe so generally speaking ( once you take all normal precau( once you take all normal precautions ) cycling is a safe activity for guests of all ages .
If cycling around the French countryside seems a bit too energetic for you then maybe you’d like to stretch out & read a book in the sun beside the swimming pool or on the large paved seating area at the front of the apartments .
With an average 300 days of sunshine each year you will be literally spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor activities . Activities available nearby include Golf, Horse Riding , Fishing , Water Sports , Climbing & Hill-walking . The Cévennes National Park with it’s wonderful flora & fauna is well worth a visit also .
Tourist Attractionsinteresting cities worth visiting if time allows are Nimes with it’s famous Roman Amphitheatre & Montpellier which is a bright vibrant modern city which still has some wonderful old architecture & buildings . Once in Montpellier the beaches of the Mediterran are just a short distance away. Uzès is famous throughout France for it’s huge Saturday market when the whole place literally becomes one big open air market . Another city of interest to artists & art historians is Arles – the home for a time of Van Gogh . Arles also has some well preserved Roman ruins which are worth a visit too . Avignon with it’s Papal Palace was during the period from 1309 to 1377 the residence of 7 different popes – all French. As well as the Papal Palace Avignon is also famous for it’s bridge – the Pont d’Avignon .

If however you just fancy a leisurely 6 holes then check out this nearby 6 hole course at Ribaute-Les-Tavernes Ski InformationSkiing in the Cevennes : Not as high or developed as Languedoc's Pyrenean ski resorts, but they do offer some stunning cross-country skiing and limited down-hill runs.
